A real highlight at this year’s Paris Air Show was the ceremonial handover of the second-generation Eurofighter simulator“Ultimate Multi-Task Trainer”(UMTT) to Eurofighter Jagdflugzeug GmbH. The simulator was developed by ADAMS Simulation and Training GmbH and Viper Wing —combining the expertise of experienced pilots with the use of state-of-the-art XR technology. 

Mixed Reality Training at the Highest Level 

The new UMTT sets new standards. The completely redesigned cockpit features a modular design, is easy to transport, and is even more faithful to the original than ever before—thanks to a highly precise reproduction of the Eurofighter’s open-cockpit layout, including a real aluminum frame, sliding side consoles, integrated wheels, and an electrically adjustable seat mounted on its own platform module. 

Of particular note are the new soft keys, which were manufactured to Viper Wing’s specifications. They significantly improve haptics, readability, and XR usage. The API has also been further developed—it is now platform-independent, more quickly customizable, and compatible with various visual systems. 

Live demonstration by Air Force display pilot “Bam Bam” 

A milestone for the project: Lieutenant Colonel “Bam Bam”, the Air Force’s current display pilot, reenacted his full airshow display in the simulator. The video shows excerpts of a side-by-side comparison: the real display, mixed reality, and the monitor view. Impressive proof that the UMTT is valid and practical training tool —“certified” directly from the pilot’s perspective.

The design – well-thought-out and efficient 

The video documents not only the handover but also the entire setup process for the simulator: from transport in custom-designed boxes on wheels to rapid assembly by the Adams team. The system’s mobility and modularity have been significantly improved compared to the previous version—a major benefit for any training environment. 

Improved side panels for the full-scale replica 

In addition to the UMTT, the cockpit of the Eurofighter Jagdflugzeug GmbH . The new side panels—also a collaboration between ADAMS and Viper Wing — have been refined in detail and are characterized by significantly greater durability. They were officially unveiled at the Paris Air Show.
