When you climb into a high-performance fighter jet, fire up the engines surrounded by 6 tons of fuel, and shoot up almost vertically at Mach 1 to defend your country, there’s little room for error. It’s not just your own life at stake, but the lives of others as well! You have to make decisions in a fraction of a second, and the responsibility lies with you and you alone. The pressure is extreme—FAILURE IS NOT AN OPTION!
That’s why, as pilots, we train continuously for years under realistic conditions. We carefully brief our team on objectives and tactics before every mission. We prepare for every eventuality. Every day, we learn from the mistakes we or others make.
