Change of leadership among pilots
“Hawk, you’re in command of the German Air Force.”
“Copy. I’m in command of the German Air Force. Vega, you’re cleared to be my wingman.”
This is how it will sound in May 2025, when the outgoing Inspector of the Air Force, Lieutenant General Ingo “Vega” Gerhartz, symbolically hands over command of the Bundeswehr’s second-largest branch—which protects the skies over Germany from the air and from the ground—to his successor, Lieutenant General Holger “Hawk”
With this sentence, command over nearly 30,000 soldiers and approximately 380 aircraft and helicopters in four countries of operation passes to the new commander. The responsibility is immense. But for the two men, it’s business as usual. As highly experienced pilots, they have shouldered great responsibility in a challenging job throughout their entire careers.
Responsibility is part of everyday life—even in business
Business isn't about protecting the land and people. And not every top executive, department head, team leader, or agency director is responsible for so many employees. Nevertheless, they all have something in common with the head of the Air Force—indeed, with all pilots: they, too, bear a great deal of responsibility!
Leadership is not an option, but a responsibility
Under her leadership, the company is expected to thrive and grow. It’s all about revenue and profits, jobs, successful projects, satisfied customers, meeting deadlines, and, last but not least, the well-being of the employees.
You need to be prepared for this challenge!
